Food control body suspends sale of fish

Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority has temporarily suspended the selling of Vietnamese Basa fish in the emirate's markets until they are tested and proven to be safe for human consumption.

The suspension will be lifted after test results prove that the fish is free of any harmful substances.

Mohammad Jalal Al Rayaysa, Director of the Public Relations and Communications Department at the authority, said the food control body works according to the best international practices.

The move was taken after information was circulated via the internet, alleging that the Basa, a type of catfish, feeds on sewage water which is treated with Malachite Green, a harmful substance that can cause cancer.
